Funding for scooter pod
Valley Invicta Primary School at Holborough Lakes has been awarded £1,500 for Kent County Council to help purchase and install a scooter storage pod. This is part of a wider travel project to help the environment by encouraging children to walk, scoot or cycle to school, rather than travelling by car.
To apply for the funding, the school had to put together a detailed travel plan, explaining how the money would help:
- reduce the number of car journeys to your school
- establish positive active journeys to school
- improve both mental and physical health through physical activity
- promote independence and improve safety awareness
- reduce the environmental impact of the journey to school
Headteacher, Lisa Vickers, said: “We are so pleased to be receiving this funding, which will have a significant impact on the local environment by encouraging our pupils to scoot to school. We hope this will also help them increase the amount of exercise they are having and allow some of them to travel to school together, therefore giving them more opportunities for social interactions too. I would like to thank everyone who played a part in us securing the funding.”
