Years 5 and 6 Trip to Dover Castle
To celebrate the end of our World War 2 topic, Years 5 and 6 took a trip to Dover Castle.
We learnt all about Operation Dunkirk and we explored the tunnels where it was actually planned. Interactive videos taught us about why the war started and what it was actually like to live during World War 2. The Great Tower was really interesting and we saw a functioning well that led to a natural spring.
Our imaginations ran wild in the spooky Medieval tunnels but it was really interesting to experience how people used to live.
Here's what some of our pupils had to say about their visit:
Muheebah: "We went on a school trip to Dover Castle. It took us one hour to get there. After we arrived, we exited the coach and made our way past a mote. This lead to a huge, steep rocky hill. Next, we met a tour guide who gave us three presentations about World War Two. Then he left us to explore on our own. We went through loads of gloomy caves. We then went to the Medieval passageway where there were fake dead bodies and everyone was screaming (they were ear-piercing!)."
Aishat: "Year 5 & 6 went on a trip to Dover Castle. First, we went on a coach to get there. After, we got there and as a group we discovered some of the things there, we also had a tour guide to show us around later. Firstly, we watched how the war started, then we watched the French people during the war. Then we went to discover ourselves and we went to a shop that had loads of nice things there. I bought a candycane, lollipop and invisible ink pen."
Samuel: "Year 5 and 6 went on a trip to Dover Castle. First we got on a massive coach, it took one hour to get there. After, we walked over a bridge and went into the gift shop, it was very overpriced! Then we went in some tunnels, everybody was trying to scare each other. The rest was walking and going into the rooms of the commanders of the war. There was a massive well that went down 100 metres. Then we all went on the coach again and went home."
Grace: "My class and I went on a school trip to Dover Castle. First we were on the bus for about an hour. We met our tour guide and we watched a short clip of how the war started. Then we watched another clip about the French people and their experience of the war. After that we got to tour ourselves so we went to get a snack and then we went to the gift shop with our money. I got a mug for my best friend called Holley and a stress ball for my friend Summer. We then went to get lunch and then we went to the castle. This was really fun because we were all trying to scare each other. Best school trip in ages!"
